Five awesome horsey spectator experiences on this weekend

We really don’t mean to brag, but the UAE really is one of the best places on the planet to be if you love horses and equestrian sport and this weekend is no different!

With a whole host of equestrian action, from polo and dressage, to racing, showjumping and more. For those on a budget, the good news is everything has free basic admission. But for those who want to splash the cash a little, there are brunches, picnics and a slew of VIP options to enjoy – it is the UAE after all!

Top Class Showjumping: Sharjah Equestrian and Racing Club

Sharjah’s biggest annual equestrian spectacle is finally here – the 20th Sharjah International Show Jumping Championship. Highlights of this weekend include the CSI1*, CSI3*, Young Horses and Group VII qualifiers. Held in SERC’s fabulous indoor arena complex, the venue offers comfortable ringside seating, plus refreshments and snacks.

Events run from 9am to 10pm throughout the weekend and entry is completely free.

Unaffiliated Showjumping: Desert Palm Riding School

A fun training show for riding school riders and for livery and outside riders who would like to give their horses a run-out, this event offers seven classes of jumping from Class 1 ground poles, and class 2 cross poles all the way up to Class 7 with jumps up to 105 cm. Classes 1 to 3 receive rosettes,whereas classes 4 - 7 receive prize money.

Spectators can watch for free and enjoy the lovely ambience of the club.

Racing Brunch: Meydan Hotel

Meydan’s exhilarating flat-racing season continues this week and on Saturday February 1st Meydan Hotel, which overlooks the track will host ‘The Terrace Brunch,’. With international buffet including a special kids’ menu, live band, fun activities and dedicated kids’ area, plus outdoor seating, the brunch has stunning views of the Grandstand and all the racing action. Prices start at AED 20 for children 5-9 years, AED100 for children 10 to 15 years, AED140 for adults inclusive of soft drinks and AED180 for adults inclusive of house beverages.

Basic admission to the (Gate B) is free and gates open at 1.30pm with racing commencing at 3pm.

Arabian Showing: Abu Dhabi

This weekend sees the culmination of the UAE National Arabian Showing Championships, 2020 in Abu Dhabi. Witness the breath-taking elegance and beauty of the UAE’s finest Arabians, with Friday showcasing the country’s best stallions and colts and the overall championships for all categories on happening on Saturday. Classes start at 2pm daily and the event is held at Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club.

Polo Picnic: Habtoor Polo Club and Resort

Visit Habtoor Polo Club and Resort this weekend and experience the sport of kings, with three high-octane games in the Silver Cup Series. Friday sees UAE Polo vs Habtoor Polo with the game starting at 2pm, and Saturday offers two exciting games back to back from 2pm to 6pm.

And, its not all about the polo, there’s a dedicated kids’ zone with fun activities, a shopping village, a spectacular fashion show, music by international DJ’s, and more. Spectators can bring their own picnics and book gazebos through the hotel.

General admission is free.
